When we launched our Level the Field program in May of this year, it was with a view toward finding and helping high schools with average budgets and/or who have faced some kind of adversity throughout the year. We wanted to help them level the playing field by having access to our Reveal Sideline Replay system. The response we’ve received has been amazing.
Hundreds of high school football coaches from across the country told us about their programs, shared their stories, talked about their passion for the game, and proudly bragged about their amazingly talented football players. They also told us how they could use and benefit from a Reveal Sideline Replay system. Reading these coaches’ stories about their teams and the challenges faced by each has been not only a great gift for us, but also a humbling experience.
As a result, selecting one high school football program to receive a Reveal Sideline Replay system has been much harder than anticipated. We’ve heard from inner city programs with all-volunteer staffs, small rural schools that play in conferences against big urban schools, and programs that are rebuilding after enduring years of hardship. All of these coaches share a passion for football, along with an amazing commitment to their players and programs.
After reading all the entries many times, and after much internal discussion, we narrowed the list to three schools. Picking just one was really hard. But we had to pick one. And the school that we selected was Captain Shreve High School. Now, we’d like to tell you about them.
Captain Shreve High School
Captain Shreve High School in Shreveport, Lousiana plays football as a 5A school and last season faced several teams already using sideline replay systems. The Captain Shreve coaching staff had been discussing options for some type of sideline replay system for the upcoming season. On April 25th, both the team and the Shreveport community as a whole were devastated when long-time head football coach and athletic director Richard Lary suffered at fatal heart attack while attending a school baseball game. Priorities for the team and the Captain Shreve community immediately refocused on helping Coach Lary’s family, and filling the void left by his passing. Over 27 years of mentoring students in Caddo Parish Schools, Lary touched the hearts and lives of thousands of students, parents, friends, opponents, and co-workers.
Coach Scott Menard and the Captain Shreve football team will receive a free Reveal Sideline Replay System before the start of practice in late July. Congratulations team!
We wish the best for coach Lary’s family and the Captain Shreve community and are looking forward to the great things they’ll do with the Reveal Sideline Replay system.
